Meet the Maestros

The foundation organizes an event called Meet the Maestros where in one the artists will deliver a lecture – demonstration which will be followed by an interactive session.

The first artist to be featured in this series was the renowned frame drummer Zohar Fresco. The introduction was done by the Ghatam maestro Vid. Suresh Vaidyanathan.

Zohar Fresco – Zohar Izhak Fresco is known as a pioneer of the tof miriam, the ancient frame drum originated in the Middle East more than three thousand years ago. Fresco understood the great value and the wide musical range that exists in the tof miriam and dedicated his life to the development of a new fingering technique and a unique musical language by the name MANEGINA. In doing so Fresco created his own drumming style and became a mentor to musicians all over the world who followed him, learned the secrets of his musical method and adapted his drumming style in their musical work. As an appealing performer, Zohar Fresco’s solo concerts present his original compositions based on vocal and drums the fascinating combination which is considered as the earliest music form. Fresco is the co-founder of the well-known Arabs & Jews ensemble Bustan Abraham

Suresh Vaidyanathan – Trained by illustrious musicians like T R Harihara Sharma, T H Vinayakaram, Sangita Kalanidhi Dr T V Gopalakrishnan and Umayalpuram Narayanaswamy iyer, Suresh has gained pre-eminence with his unique fingering techniques, sound modulation and aesthetic accompaniment by combining two authentic schools viz, Palani Krishna iyer’s and Umayalpuram Kothandarama iyer’s. Majority of the next generation ghatam players today are students and inspired followers of Suresh Vaidyanathan. Internationally acclaimed and respected for his profound knowledge of Indian rhythm and melody, he has revolutionized the art of playing ghatam with his aesthetic aggressive style.

This programme was organized in Prabath Kalapoornima, NR Colony, Bengaluru. This was attended by lot of musicians and students and the response was overwhelming.
